The Greatest American Cleanup Kicks off March 1

Last Updated: March 1, 2025

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) welcomes everyone to take part in Phase 1 of the Greatest American Cleanup by helping remove litter from the community’s roadways between Saturday, March 1, and Saturday, May 31.

The effort is a part of the Keep America Beautiful initiative, which has a nationwide goal of picking up 25 billion pieces of litter across the United States by July 2026 to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary next year.

“25 billion pieces of litter picked up by July 4, 2026, is a monumental goal to honor our nation’s milestone birthday,” said Forsyth County Environmental Programs Manager Tammy Keaton. “We look forward to being part of this new Keep America Beautiful initiative, while also making a positive impact on our local community. And we’re always grateful for the hard work our residents put in to help our county shine.”

Participants, as an organized team of volunteers or as individuals, may schedule a time slot to pick up their supplies from the KFCB office (426 Canton Highway). Volunteers will then depart to clean up roadways in the community, fill out status reports, and drop off their bags of litter and supplies at the Tolbert Street Recycling Center (351 Tolbert Street), or leave the bags on the side of the road and text KFCB their location.

Pre-registration for this event is required. Volunteers can sign up for the Greatest American Cleanup here.

Volunteers must provide their own transportation to their assigned roads and sign a waiver before participation.
